The Palette of Russia

For the last few years, Russian art has become extremely popular in Ireland.  Exhibitions and Art Auctions dedicated to Russian Artists have been occurring on occasions but are becoming more frequent.

But what makes Russian art so special that makes us want to talk about it and buy it?

I would say it is a thirst for Russian knowledge and quality - Fine Art in Russia as a term, takes its roots from ancient 'Icon' painters who were producing their masterpieces for the Russian Orthodox Church.

With the opening of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg in the 18th Century, this gave another powerful incentive to the further development of Russian art. Whether sponsored by Church, State or just for personal investment, our painters, musicians, sculptors, architects and writers, at some stage in their lives have travelled to Europe, Asia and the Middle East to study.  They were spreading the knowledge of the Homeland, developing it by hard work and transforming it into something unique but still combining it with a touch of Russian soul.

So if you see a painting by a Russian artist it will never be just a painting, it will be years and years of studying, practicing, developing and learning the techniques of famous masters. The work by the artist - having travelled far and wide and encountering many new cultures It will be the whole life of an artist but with Russians unforgettable touch!

More than 70 years of suppression of Communism regime have passed and Russian art has spread its wings once again to embark on a new journey of its further development. Artists of Russia have received a great opportunity to present their works for the enjoyment of not only their fellow-citizens but also for the rest of the world.
